Vertical video safe zones: review the final crop
Short answer
Protect essential text and product actions through the final crop and the actual placement preview. Our production keeps important material inside a central 4:5 area of a vertical master, but that is a house rule rather than official platform geometry. Interface overlays can change, so recheck the current preview before delivery.
A caption can sit inside the frame and still hide the product’s contact point. Protect essential words and actions through the moving crop, then inspect the intended placement preview. Keep the central house framing guide separate from current interface geometry so an early layout decision does not become an unsupported delivery approval.
Distinguish the master from the placement
A vertical master is the file you produce. A placement is the context in which it is displayed, including crop and interface elements. State which master and which intended placements the review covers.
A file can be correctly sized while its important text sits behind a control in a particular preview. Conversely, a central layout can preserve the key action even when outer background is cropped. Keep those questions separate. This guide describes our review method and house framing area rather than publishing supposedly permanent dimensions for every platform interface.
Use the central area as a house guide
In our production in October 2026, important material stays inside a central 4:5 area of a 1080×1920 master, from y 285 to y 1635. These values describe our production rule, not an official requirement from a distribution platform.
Use the guide early for the product, face, and essential text. Then inspect the actual moving crop. A hand can enter from outside the area, and a zoom can push a key object toward an edge. A guide is a planning aid; the rendered sequence provides the evidence that the important content stayed protected.

Mark what must remain visible
List the essential parts before arranging the scene: product mechanism, hand contact, face or mouth when relevant, captions, required condition, and next action. Different shots may have different protected items.
For a hypothetical lid demonstration, the hinge and finger contact matter more than decorative background. A caption placed over that contact can make the shot fail even when the text itself is inside the guide. Protect meaning, not merely rectangular bounds. The layout should let the viewer connect the spoken instruction to the actual visible action.
In a hypothetical bag shot, the zipper pull is the protected detail because the spoken explanation depends on seeing its movement. Inspect the push through intermediate frames, not just the beginning and end, and include the final caption in that review. This is an editorial example, not official platform margins. A house guide can help compose the shot, while the intended placement preview remains a separate check of crop and interface interactions.

Review the start, movement, and final crop
Inspect the opening, intermediate, and ending frames of pushes, pans, and speaker movements. A face can lean below the caption area, or an object can enter a control region late in the shot. Watching only the endpoints may miss a brief obstruction.
In our production in October 2026, frames around zoom starts and cuts receive explicit review. Keep that review tied to the delivered crop rather than a wider source view. If a later version changes the zoom or caption position, recheck the affected interval even when the underlying footage stays unchanged.
Check current placement previews
Use the actual preview for the intended destination when it is available, and record what was checked. Interface elements and display contexts can change. Do not convert a remembered overlay layout into a permanent production fact.
If the destination is unresolved, preserve enough room and mark placement review pending. A central composition can reduce risk but cannot prove compatibility with an unknown interface. The owner responsible for delivery should know which previews remain unchecked. This is a concrete missing review step, not a reason to pretend one generic template covers every destination.

Keep the closing action readable
Give the closing text and any required condition sufficient time in the frame. In our production in October 2026, the close is planned around the voice tail and a reading allowance. That is an internal timing choice, not a universal duration rule.

Check both placement and reading time. A button can be fully inside the frame yet disappear too quickly. A real screen can show the correct action while its control is too small at phone size. Adjust the composition and duration to the actual message rather than relying on the fact that the pixels are technically present.

Review audio and color as separate gates
Loudness for social video: measure the finished mix covers loudness, and Mix music under voiceover without losing the words covers the music bed beneath speech. A safe crop does not establish an intelligible mix. Keep those approvals separate so a passed visual guide does not become a general quality stamp.
Color space in video ads: keep overlays consistent covers color-space consistency. Captions that remain within the protected area still need appropriate contrast over the rendered picture. Inspect the brightest and darkest shots with the final text. A color or grade revision can change legibility even when the text position and master dimensions have not moved.
Preserve the checked output and scope
Save the master version, protected-content notes, reviewed crops, and placement-preview record. Identify any unresolved destination or alternate aspect ratio. The next editor should know whether a new crop needs another review or already belongs to the approved package.
ai ugc ads workflow gives the wider workflow, and Turntake’s production workflow describes Turntake’s production approach. Safe-zone work is complete when the essential action and words remain usable in the checked context. A central guide supports that decision, but the actual crop, motion, text, and current interface must still be seen.

FAQ
Is the central 4:5 area an official platform rule?
No. It is our house framing guide for important material inside a vertical master. Review the actual placement preview separately. A useful internal area should not be presented as permanent official geometry for every destination or interface.
Should every part of the shot stay inside it?
Protect the parts needed to understand the message, such as mechanism, contact point, captions, and closing action. Decorative background can have different constraints. Review what the crop means, rather than treating every pixel as equally important.
Can a zoom break an approved safe layout?
Yes. A moving crop can push a product, face, or label into an obstructed region even if the opening is clear. Inspect intermediate frames and the final caption layout. Recheck the affected interval after zoom or position changes.
What if the intended placement is not chosen yet?
Keep the destination unresolved in the review record and preserve reasonable composition room. Perform the actual placement check when it is known. Do not label a generic central layout fully approved for an interface that has not been inspected.
